There is one additional benefit in going to an auto-parts store: The associate will typically change the blades for free on your vehicle after purchase. This approach is better for a Walmart scenario when you may not be able to find an employee to ask. Or, you can go the self-serve method and check the guidebook that’s typically hanging on the shelf near the wiper blades for sale. Then they’ll look it up for you in their system and walk you right over to the rack and show you the selection. This method works best at auto-parts stores. You can ask an associate which wipers you need based on the make, model and year of your vehicle. While we are on the subject, I also find the wipers not as fast as some of the other cars, especially the fastest speed is not fast enough in downpours or when someone splashes large amount of water from the other side. OEM ones are very quiet, but I want to be able to see without smearing. I will stop by auto zone and check if they have bosch icons and pick up those first. I wasn't able to get the Costco Michelin ones (they were $7 on sale!) to fit on my Q7, but if you guys say it works on X5, I might as well buy a pair and keep them in cargo area for emergencies. Both my Q7 and 2 of my X5's had same issue on passenger side, replacing wipers temporarily solves the issue, but I guess as they get worn, they don't make even contact. I suspect BMW and Audi does not use stronger springs for some reason, or arms are positioned in a way that do not make perfect contact throughout the windshield. Regarding costco ones, they actually served me well with my Jeeps but Jeep had a much stronger spring on their wiper arms. I also won't bother with rear, it's working fine as it's rarely used, in fact I try not to use it even in bad weather because I hate the pattern, must be some mental issue I have with that half circle mark. I don't bother with the rear but I replace my fronts every 12 months before the state inspections.
I did some research and was leaning towards trying the Bosch Focus, mainly due to the novelty of them, but think I will end up going with the Bosch Icon as they seem to be very highly rated by most.Īs far as 14" rear go, I would go with either the Bosch OE Specialty rear or the BMW rear (which I believe is the same blade) since I have seen that cheaper on some sites. This thread got me thinking I should replace mine before my upcoming trip.
I replaced them with some cheapos I got form Walmart and everything was fine. Maybe it was just that application but they did a terrible job holding to the windshield when at speed (above 60 or so) and were streaking from the beginning. I got the Michelin's at Costco a few years ago for my TL and was not happy with them at all. Picked up two Michelin guardian front wiper blades from Costco (they are having sales now (till April)) but I can't seems to find a good rear wiper blade in 13" or 14". I am too shopping for the wiper blades as well.
